In July 2009, 13 to 15 the second MASCIN (Madjid Samii Congress of International Neurosurgeons) Congress was held at the Neurological Institute of Curitiba (INC) in Curitiba, Brazil. Prof. Dr. Ricardo Ramina has organized this meeting. Colleagues from 14 Countries participated actively of the second MASCIN Congress. The scientific program covered all fields of neurosurgery and was highlighted by active discussions moderated by Prof. Madjid Samii. Professor Ladislau Steiner from Charlottesville, Virginia presented a memorable conference on “Ethics in Medicine”. Young neurosurgeons and residents were strongly encouraged to participate of the discussions. The social program started with a barbecue” in a typical “ Brazilian churrascaria”. Next evening there was a wine tasting at INCʼs reception with the participation of a wine expert, and a gala dinner in a French style castle built in 1924.
In order to congregate a larger number of colleagues around the world, the participants of the business meeting of the second MASCIN unanimously decided to found a society in honor of Prof. Madjid Samii. Dr. Laligam Sekhar proposed to change the name of the future meetings from MASCIN to MASSIN (MADJID SAMII SOCIETY OF INTERNATIONAL NEUROSURGEONS).
